Obama vs. McCain (Oxford, Misssissippi Debate)
After reading the two articles it seems as if the writers believed this debate was not very intriguing. The debate took place in Oxford, Mississippi and included Barack Obama, John McCain and moderator Jim Lehrer. Some of the topics that were debated about were foreign policy, national security and the financial crisis, which affected whether or not McCain would be even attending this debate. The articles did not give a clear winner but gave McCain overall a B- and Obama an A-. It states that McCain started off constantly coughing, was very edgy and was never really in the offense. McCain only had the advantage when he spoke about taxes and spending. He also talked abot how Obama never went to Iraq nor did he have any willingness to visit dictators. Viewers saw that McCain was given a blow when Obama mentioned McCain supporting President George Bush's budgets. I watched some highlights of the debate and as stated in the article, I also noticed that McCain constantly said, "You don't understand" and Obama constantly said, "You're right" before he said his point of view towards a topic. McCain constantly tried to show Obama's lack of experience but anytime this occured Obama mentioned McCain linking to Bush, which I feel put Obama in the offense. Obama spoke with much confidence, avoided humor and evaded mistakes. Barack Obama put up a great debate and hopefully can continue this into Nashville, Tennesse.
